Pulling the TailGate Off the LandCruiser

Spent most of the morning pulling half of the tailgate off the LandCruiser.

The driver’s side of the tailgate was held in place by 17 phillips head screws

The LandCruiser is a 1970, so those screws have almost 50 years of inertia to overcome to get them to move. I could only get 1 to unscrew and I had to drill out the other 16 screws. It took about 4 hours to drill them out.

It looks a lot better now that I am finished. The driver’s side tailgate was removed and we are one step closer to getting the body off the frame. I hope to work on the passenger’s side tailgate and the spare tire mount next week.
